Adult Classes
Drama for Beginners
Weekly 90 minute evening classes. For anyone wishing to explore acting technique, stagecraft, improvisation, character development, in a fun, no pressure environment.
Would you like to do something fun each week for yourself? Not to mention the belly laughs (!), there are so many benefits to learning drama – improve your self esteem, communication skills, active listening skills, empathy, coping skills, self awareness and awareness of others, building resilience, storytelling skills, self expression/animation and much more. These are all powerful tools and skills that we can use in every area of our lives. Whether you work in the home or whatever environment you work in, this course is wonderful for self development as well as a super fun escape from the pressures of life!
Adult Drama Group
Weekly 90 minute evening classes in acting technique, stagecraft, improvisation, character development, in a fun, no pressure environment. This group is for those who have completed Level 1 and Level 2 of our Adult Drama courses or who have some training/experience of performance.
Participants have the option of performing in our annual play in the Bray One-Act Festival, where we have enjoyed some great success over the last few years.
Open Adult Workshops
Presentation & Performance Skills, Levels 1 & 2
Conducted at various venues and dates throughout the year.
(Absolutely no experience necessary for Level 1, participants must complete Level 1 before applying for Level 2, or must have a basic knowledge/some experience of performance/presentation skills.)
Each level is a one-day, 6-hour workshop.
Level 1: One Day Workshop from 10am-4pm
Whether you are working in the home or the workplace, we all need to take time out for fun and self-development. Maybe you have a fear of public speaking? Or perhaps you need to brush up on your presentation skills for work or an upcoming event? Has working at home damaged your sense of self and you need a confidence boost?
Level 2: One Day Workshop from 10am-4pm
Those wishing to further explore performance and presentation skills will develop their technique further with a more in-depth look at the skills needed to be an outstanding speaker/performer/presenter.
Being Your Best You! Parts 1 & 2
Conducted at various venues and dates throughout the year, this one-day workshop will cover a wide range of topics, including:
Presentation & Performance Skills/Managing Fear Around Public Speaking, Making an Impact, Assessing Life/Work Balance, Setting Goals & Fulfilling Dreams, Dealing with Conflict & Difficult Situations, Assertiveness and Influencing Others.
Corporate Workshops
Mel Ryan Communications offers specially designed programmes and workshops for the corporate market. The combination of performance coaching, acting techniques, improvisation and storytelling, when added to sales training, is a very powerful mix of tools for any team, particularly sales teams. The ability to stand out, to make an impact, to deliver a compelling message is a learned skill and can be developed by anyone.
Our tailor-made workshops offer training in the use of voice, improvisation, developing different personas and effective communication skills along with managing fear around public speaking. They are also a very useful bonding experience, where teams find it impossible not to laugh together! One to one performance coaching available also.

Mel Ryan
Mel studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, The Gaiety School of Acting, The Bil Keating Centre for TV Presentation Skills and Carr Communications.
She has been playing leading roles in The Gaiety Theatre, The National Concert Hall, The Olympia Theatre, The Cork Opera House, The Wexford Opera House among others in Ireland for over 30 years. She has also presented many concerts in the National Concert Hall, The Pavilion Theatre and Jury’s Hotel.
TV, Radio and Film Credits include: The Late Late Show, Prime Time, Theatre Nights (all for RTE), the Mum in Turkle (RTE), Mother in Fantabulous! (IADT), Stella in Aisling’s Diary (CR Productions/RTE) and Aine in Graham Jones’s latest feature film, Davin. Commercials for Supervalue, A1 Waste, Meteor, Vodafone, Ebookers and more recently Moypark Chicken and Pinergy (RTE/TV3).
Mel has three children and has always had a special interest in mentoring young people. She is completely dedicated to helping them believe in themselves and to feel that they are capable of achieving more than they realise.
